Giveaway: R&R Roasters

Update: As of Sunday, June 7, 2015, this giveaway is closed.

Hello there!

The other day I got the darlingest package in the mail from Kansas.

coffee (1)

Inside was a bundle wrapped in stripey paper, tied up with string, and the smell that came out of it?

coffee (2)

Mmmmm, heaven—

Fresh coffee!

coffee (3).2

My friends Ryan and Rebecca Shetler started a coffee roasting business, and offered me a sample. I love a good cup. And though I’m not a coffee gourmet, my mom is—[grin]—so I invited her over. She said “[delighted shriek] Yes!! I LOVE their coffee!”

coffee (9)

We ground and brewed and sipped together, and I’m a believer. Sooo delicious!

(You know I try not to rave over things I can’t share, so hang on. Your part is coming soon.)

Ryan and Rebecca, also known as R&R Roasters (how cute is that?) buy ethically sourced beans, and carefully roast them to perfection in small batches. All the beans at R&R Roasters are organic, fair-trade, and roasted after you place your order because the Shetlers think freshness is what makes home roasting so wonderful. They ship within a day or two of roasting, so you get that perfectly optimum flavor.

Don’t even get these guys started talking about coffee experiences and tasting notes. This is good coffee.

coffee (8)

Plus it comes in adorable brown paper bags with tabs to seal in the freshness.

coffee (6)

And then of course you can make a latte with it, if you want…

coffee (4)

Ryan and Becca would like to give away one pound for free, to one of you. Stay in your seats, please. There will be no stampedes to the comment section. No people will be trampled in the giving of this bean.

But we mean it. And feel free to hang around and check out their website here, with coffee beans for sale by the pound here. They also offer subscriptions, for twice-monthly fresh deliveries to your door.

You can also find R&R on Facebook, and on Instagram.*

On their website they have a blog where they talk about coffee and life. Becca works as a barista, and loves to educate people about coffee and help develop their palates.

Since R&R Roasters is a new business (with years of personal experience in coffees), we’d like to spread the word. Please share the giveaway with someone—in person, by email, or on social media—then leave a comment to enter the drawing.

Thanks!

Shari Zook

Giveaway: Silent Grief

Update: As of Monday, April 27, this giveaway is closed.

*****

Hi there, ladies.

Today I’m helping introduce a new e-book, just released by Kendra Graber. It’s called Silent Grief: Hope for Surviving Early Miscarriage.

hardcoverstack_621x739

Kendra has six children in her home, and four more who are awaiting her with Jesus. Some of you will recognize her from her blog, Living in the Shoe.

In her new e-book, she starts by sharing her own story of miscarriage, then takes us through a Biblical look at life within the womb, our feelings of loss and grief, stories from other moms who miscarried, and tips for walking alongside a friend who is experiencing this pain.

kendra's family

Kendra shares symptoms of early miscarriage, some reassuring advice for the medical side of things, and tips for finding closure after losing an unborn child. She’s gentle, sympathetic, and down-to-earth. Throughout the book, she calls women to seek the Lord and trust His hand in all of life’s experiences.

If there is one thing I’m taking from the book, it is permission to grieve.

I find some books on miscarriage or grief too heavy to carry. Silent Grief is short (less than sixty pages) and simple—largely story-based, with some poetry, bright pictures, and a spirit of faith.

Here is a photo where you can see Kendra’s face. This is important to me, to see the eyes of the person I’m listening to. She’s not only a smiling mom lying on the grass surrounded by her healthy children.

kendra and husband

Kendra gave me a review copy of the e-book, and wants to give another copy to one of my readers. Please note my two disclaimers here:

  1. You don’t have to have a Kindle to read this. It is available on Kindle, or simply as a PDF document, able to be opened and read on any computer.
  2. You also don’t have to have miscarried. This book can help you understand miscarriage in order to encourage friends who have experienced it—Or perhaps your copy will become a special gift for a close friend who has recently walked through pain. Entering the giveaway is not an admission of miscarriage. I have to add this disclaimer not only for those of you who haven’t miscarried—but also for those who have, and will feel too exposed to talk about it here. You don’t have to share your story or use your real name. But you are loved.

Silent Grief is not an expensive e-book—only $2.99, available here on Kindle or here on PDF. Please consider sharing with someone you love. Leave a comment to enter!

Giveaway: White Hill Pottery

As of Tuesday, March 3, this giveaway is CLOSED.

I see none of you were brave enough to say “Forget the story; gimme the giveaway.” Thanks for that. You’re sweet.

Hello there.

A week or two ago I asked you to share a cup of tea with me, and now I’d like to offer you—the cup!

mugs (1)

I {almost} don’t need any words at all for this giveaway; the product speaks for itself. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful handmade from clay.

White Hill Pottery is based in Virginia, run out of the basement of Darrell and Alison Hershberger. Alison does the pottery making herself; every piece is hand-thrown. Do not ask me how she manages this alongside being a pastor’s wife, a true friend, and a mother of three—she just does. She’s continually exploring new items or styles, and perfecting her existing ones.

mugs (5)

She and I are offering one of you readers a mug, your choice of the two. There’s a beautiful blue…

mugs (8)

and a rich earth brown.

mugs (7)

I love the textures and varied glazes Alison works into her products, and the perfect, perfect shapes. The one shown here happens to be a new shape for her. Isn’t it a beauty though? So petite in appearance, but able to hold a full 12 ounces of your favorite hot beverage. I measured.

mugs (4)

(Do you want this cup yet or should I keep talking?)

I was given one of Alison’s mugs last year, and I use it nearly every day. Her pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe, and like stoneware, holds the heat of your coffee. She also makes vases, pitchers, and bowls. On her White Hill Pottery website, you can take a look at the other products. {Click here.}

mugs (3)

Only one of you can win. But it’s Alison’s wish, and mine, that you keep her in mind when you need a new piece of pottery, or a pretty gift for a friend. She’d be happy to ship you one!

mugs (9)

To enter the drawing to win, please leave a comment stating WHY you think you should win, and who you think should definitely NOT win. Just kidding.

Please leave a comment with the simple recipe for a hot (or cold) drink you love. It doesn’t have to be precise, or fancy, or from scratch—Hot milk and a packet of Swiss Miss with a mound of whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel works for me. Then we can get ideas from one another, you see. As we speak, the outdoor temperature at my house is negative five degrees Fahrenheit and I need to think warm thoughts.

I’m not *requiring* you to share the giveaway with your friends, but please do: we are NonSnatchers, remember? So we think of others who might want cheese. And we tell more people about Alison’s work.

I am so happy to share this chance with you. Enjoy!

Giveaway: Simple Servings cookbook!

UPDATE: As of December 6, 2014, this giveaway is closed.

*****

Dear people,

I’m happy to announce there’s a new cookbook on the market around here! – Simple Servings: recipes celebrating the place of food, faith & laughter at Faith Builders.

1

Beatrice King has gathered an incredible collection of great eats. She’s been head cook at FBEP for ten years, and got so many requests for her recipes she decided to do it right and pack those babies into a spiral binding.

3

It’s got a gorgeous design and user-friendly layout, as well as full-color-photograph divider pages—and five hundred plus recipes, all tried and tested.

5

It’s not a comprehensive cookbook made to cover all aspects of cooking—rather, it ensures every recipe is a winner, and goes big with certain sections. I got my fingers in it by copy-editing, and as I edited – well, I admit it. I got crumbs and smears on the proof pages because I couldn’t stop trying out the recipes pre-publication. Awesome!

7

From Mocha Smoothies to Italian Cheese Bread, from Mexican Tortilla Stacks to Dulce de Leche Cake, you’ll be wiping drool. Promise. And that’s not even touching the delightful salad section… Or the special “Large Quantities” sector for cooking with crowds.

We’ve slipped a little history of Faith Builders in the front and a couple of good essays in the back.

2

And here’s my own little slice–a recipe I’ll share with you, but only in print!

8

Christian Learning Resource is offering a copy of Simple Servings for free to one of you readers! We’re going to make it an unusually short giveaway, closing Saturday December 6 at midnight, so that those who don’t win have time to take advantage of a second offer: free shipping on all orders placed before December 10! These copies will arrive by Christmas, Lord willing—just in time for you to try out some new holiday recipes, or wrap the book in pretty paper for the chef in your life.

6

We want the word spread on this cookbook! To enter to win, you must share the giveaway news with someone. You may share it on a public network, or simply copy and paste this link {https://sharizook.com/giveaway-simple-servings} into a private email to a friend. Leave a comment and tell me who you shared it with {“BFF” works for me…} and also, just for fun, what favorite food makes your mouth water.

Example: I’m sharing this giveaway with YOU and I would give a lot for a Lindor truffle right now…

Share the joy. And the Chocolate Brownie Trifle. (That’s right. Found on page 388.)
