My friend Janelle Glick is back, after having spent significant time this week researching and pondering. Here are her concluding thoughts and questions. Plug in! She writes– ***** Confession: Sometimes my statements of practice are built on comfortable ignorance. So I spent some hours this week reading about the origins of Halloween. I read articles

My post last week on Halloween sparked a series of private conversations with my friend Janelle Glick. Janelle hails from the city of Waterloo, Ontario. She’s a former school teacher, present curriculum writer, wife of a musician, mother of three, seeker of Jesus. I asked her to write a guest post, sharing her thoughts on

Confession: I listened to the Accuser today. Ryan and I stayed up late having a difficult financial conversation, and I finished it by asking him an equally difficult question on beauty (what? I thought it fit…) and he answered all wrong and fell asleep. I lay awake stewing until my thoughts began to swirl into
Confession: I am in love with shapes and lines, and for this reason I find icons helpful. If the word icons offends you, edit it in your mind to say symbols. In my house it’s the same thing. Symbolism keeps me afloat by crystalizing an emotion or an experience, drawing it out where I can take
Confession: I think we are prejudiced against homosexuals in the Christian community. I don’t intend to preach to the choir, delving into the ethics of this lifestyle. I and at least 99.999% of my readers will agree that Jesus designed a woman for a man, a man for a woman. Homosexuality cuts across his design,

Confession: I wonder if I should even be here. I am a creature of weakness and sin, so much flesh mixed in with new born spirit. I come to this table ashamed, uncertain. All is mixed, the singing about blood and love and the passing of picture books back and forth between squirmy children and the
Confession: The most important thing I’ve learned in the last three years of my life— (are you ready?) … is… to… ASK! ***beep, beep, beep—this is me backing up to begin at the beginning*** For most of us, the Biblical command for older women to teach the younger women is familiar; old hat. The aged women

Confession: I have so much to learn about love. These verses blessed, corrected, and inspired me this week: 1 Cor 13, from The Message. 1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all
