Cake in a Mug

One night after my husband and I put the children to bed, we got out oversized mugs, whipped up a little cake batter, and baked cake-in-a-mug. Somehow I’d never got around to trying such a thing before. Have you?

It was so fun and delicious that on a Sunday night soon after, we laid out a cake-in-a-mug assembly line for our children and let them build and bake their own.

This is the recipe we used, The Moistest Chocolate Mug Cake, pulled from the blog Table for Two. It calls for a spoonful of Nutella, or a spoonful of chocolate chips, dropped in the center. The instructions say to “bake” for 60-90 seconds in the microwave; and 80 was just perfect for us.

The cakes puff up BIG. Use an extra-large mug, like 14 ounces at least.

We scooped vanilla ice cream onto the top.

I have yet to eat a whole one, but it was sure fun trying.

Yes! I love these even though it gives me a serious sugar rush. I like to add a dollop of peanut butter instead of Nutella. ????

Cake in a mug is a great little treat, and I really like the idea of doing an assembly line for mass production with kids – thank you for that! By the way, very cool mug you have there. ????
