Party mix

Confession: There are a couple of must-have treats at the Zooks’ house come December.

One is party mix. We love the salty crunch, the variable ingredients, and the touch of sweet.

We like making a ginormous batch, perfect to share and enjoy all season.

Observe:

1 box Cheerios
1 box Corn Chex
1 box Rice Chex
1 box Honeycomb
1 bag Bugles
1 bag pretzels
1 box Cheezits
1 bag goldfish
2 cans mixed nuts
1 bag each peanut M&M’s and plain M&M’s

Dump all but M&M’s into large stainless steel bowls (or other oven-safe containers).

2 cups margarine, melted
3 cup oil
3 Tbsp. seasoned salt
3 Tbsp. celery salt
1 1/2 Tbsp. onion salt
4 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

Stir together. Pour over cereals and toss to coat.

.
.
.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 225° for 1 hour. Remove cover and bake another hour, stirring occasionally. Cool, then layer with M&M’s in airtight containers.

You’re not kidding when you say a “ginormous” batch! I see the bugles came from the Downtown Grocery. 🙂

Nope. The illustrious Family Dollar. 🙂

Aldi saved me a whole ton of money this round…

Love it – that even looks cute! I could just use the Christmas M&Ms, put it in cute jars, and give it as gifts. The celery salt is an interesting touch – I’ll have to give that a try this time. Thanks for sharing ~

Your batch of party mix has so many more things in it than mine, it’s beautiful!! It would make great gifts!! I add the M&M’s to half the batch and sell that as “Sweet and Salty”. Daddy loves party mix, but picks out all the pretzels and lays them over by me!

So that’s where I learned that trick. Like father, like son.

You’re kidding!? I’m hoping you are still following the law of the house from when you were little, “you need to eat some and you’ll learn to like them!” lol

Mmmm… It is 10:00 pm and you are making me hungry. I am going to make a new shopping list tomorrow.

Me too. It’s 7:30am and I haven’t had breakfast yet, and my mouth is watering for party mix.

I made a batch today…alot the same ingredients but I drizzled mine with almond bark for a nice sweet touch. =)

I have two options before me:
1. Come and steal some of yours (is the dreaded dog tied?? 🙂 )
2. Go to the store and make my own

Dear Ms. S: We are eating the mix at a prodigious rate. The dog will be untied. Do your part for the national economy and buy your own ingredients. Thanks.

I see my options are becoming more limited. The untied dog poses a much greater threat in this situation than do your words.

Do you happen to know about how much this batch of party mix makes? I am wanting to make some for an event of about 125 people. I might just have to make it twice if I don’t get enough the first time, but I would prefer not too. 🙂

Hi Wendy. My two largest stainless steel bowls (which I also bake the mix in) are 8 qt. and 13 qt. One batch about fills them up… That would be almost 84 cups of mix if I’m doing the math right.

Wonderful! Thank you! I usually use about 4 gallon of snack mix total for this event, so this seems like about the perfect amount. Have a wonderful day!
