Making X’s, paying $0’s

Confession: I am probably the only one in this progressively benighted age who still plays with counted cross-stitch. I haven’t done it for years and felt pleasantly like a 12-year-old again, but I was trying for rich and varied textures on a baby patchwork blanket I’m making to donate. More on that project when I’m done.

baby-cross-stitchI found that Aida cloth is pretty cheap. And the internet is full of free patterns. I got mine here, where I found 43 different alphabet styles available.

If you’re interested in sewing at all, the news of the week is that Joann Fabrics has McCall’s patterns on sale for $0.99, through Saturday. I believe this is a company-wide sale, not only local. They are ordinarily between $15 and $20 apiece, and                    I will carefully avoid airing my opinions on that.

  1. Wow! I wish I had a Joann’s close. Maybe it is better that i don’t. I watch thrift stores for patterns and really have a nice little stash. Usually I just pull out the same basic ones again and again.

I can’t wait to see pictures of your blanket!

  2. This reminds me of the days when we used to sit in the living room and knit. 🙂 Makes me grin cause what teenage girls did THAT?
