Prejudice

Talking of politics brings me to another point.

Question: Are we in the Christian community prejudiced against homosexuals, or are we not?

I am going to hold my thoughts on the subject until tomorrow so that you may think in peace. I’m not asking about the validity of homosexuality as a moral choice, but about the quality of our response to it.

Are we or are we not?

Wow, you aren’t scared to go into quicksandy places are you? 😛
I can’t speak for every Christian, but I have seen prejudice both in myself and others towards homosexuals. I think mostly it’s due to lack of understanding of what makes people choose that lifestyle (what is it, childhood wounds?) and a skewed understanding of what homosexuality is (not just a gross lifestyle, but ultimately something that is abominable in the sight of God, something from which we need deliverance as surely as we need to be saved from sins like selfishness or hatefulness).

If you define “prejudice” as the inability or refusal to see past the things that make a person unlike me to the things that make a person like me (deserving of respect, looking for love, having a story much longer than a casual aquaintance can understand), then I’ve seen an awful lot of it. I like to think most of it is well-meaning and misguided, but that doesn’t lessen the damage. Our wanting to be and do right so easily allows us to throw stones that would make Jesus write on the ground.
